The SACP and COSATU have noted with disgust an escalating media campaign over the past few weeks which have sought to sow division, mistrust and pit the two organisations against each other. Reliant on anonymous sources, some allegedly coming from our organisations, this campaign has also sought to impose a fictitious succession battle on both organisations.

The SACP and COSATU abhor this kind of tactics that are reminiscent of failed apartheid days when there was a concerted effort to isolate communists from the liberation movement and the rest of society. We warn the media not to be prone to abuse by people both inside and outside our movement in their endeavours to pursue their narrow class and political interests.

Both the SACP and COSATU have been committed over the years of their existence to build each other’s unity and strengthen each other politically and organisationally. The SACP and COSATU rejects with the contempt it deserves the peddling that we have seen over the past few weeks and we will work tirelessly to defeat this agenda to weaken working class unity.
