Today, it is a mere thirty six (36) days before the kickoff to the much anticipated 2010 FIFA World Cup. We are on track and ready to host the World Cup. The City is ready to welcome all spectators and visitors and we want to encourage everyone to use Public Transport.

Johannesburg is the only host City that will provide two match venues - Soccer City and Ellis Park. Now we know that the City will host a total of 15 games.

An effective transport plan is, without a doubt, a key factor in the successful hosting of the World Cup. This has been effectively demonstrated during the Confederations Cup.

It is important that both residents and visitors understand that there are a number of key transport issues that all of us need to be aware of in order to ensure and enjoy a great World Cup:
1. No private vehicles will be allowed within the traffic free zones which surround both game stadiums. These areas will only be accessible for designated public transport, emergency vehicles and VIP vehicles displaying a special permit.
2. We advise spectators not to leave their transport arrangements till the last moment.
3. All the detailed information about transport will be made available on the website and other media.
4. We would like to encourage both residents and visitors to be patient and courteous to other road users. The City's roads will be more congested than usual and people should try to take that into account when making travel arrangements.
The City has provided a comprehensive transport plan for 2010. The following options will be available to residents and visitors travelling to the stadium on the designated match days.

Park and Rides, Park and Walks, Rea Vaya BRT, Metrorail and two integrated transport hubs called "Westgate Transport Hub" from which Metrorail and BRT depart and the "Sandton Transport Hub" from which Gautrain and Metrobus depart.

Park and Rides are designated areas around the City that are available for you to safely park your car for a fee and catch a shuttle service provided by the City to the stadium to watch your game.

The Park and Rides for Ellis Park are Bez Valley, Wits Campus, Constitution Hill which is called Con Hill and Gold Reef.

The Park and Rides for Soccer City are Gold Reef, Constitution Hill and Wits Campus.

Park and Walk's are designated areas near the stadiums that are available for you to safely park your car for a fee and are close enough for you to easily follow the signage and walk to the stadiums and back on match days.

The Park and Walk for Ellis Park is Athlone Boys.

The Park and Walks for Soccer City are Aeroton, Randshow Road and where Shareworld used to be located.

Services running in between cities outside Gauteng will be transporting fans from other cities and towns around South Africa into Johannesburg will go to either Sandton Transport Hub or to Westgate Transport Hub:
• From Westgate Transport Hub they will be able to catch either Rea Vaya BRT or Metrorail to the game.
• If taken to the Sandton Transport Hub they can catch Metrobus to Westgate Transport Hub.
Metrorail is a commuter train service. It will be transporting fans to the stadiums on match days, using several selected rail lines. Additional trains will be used for the fans to get around as well as commuters. You will be able to catch Metrorail from Westgate Transport Hub or from outlying rail stations. Fans will be able to go to two rail stations at Ellis Park called Doornfontein and Jeppe Stations and one station at Soccer City called Nasrec Station.

Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is the City's brand new bus service. It passes both Soccer City and Ellis Park. During the World Cup, spectators can catch Rea Vaya from any Rea Vaya Station to the Soccer Stadiums. Rea Vaya will also transport fans from some of the Park and Rides such as Wits or Gold Reef.

In conclusion, I would like to indicate that the City of Johannesburg is ready for 2010 and that we are looking forward to travelling to the games safely and in style.

We are confident that everything will go well. Together we will deliver the best-ever World Cup experience and leave a lasting legacy for the people of Africa, South Africa, Gauteng and Johannesburg.

Thank you.
