Iraq i leaders will hold discussions today morning about a compromise on their interim constitution and are likely to sign the document at 11:00 GMT, the Governing Council spokesperson said.

"There will be a signing in the afternoon at about 2:00 pm. The council will meet at 10:00 am and then we will officially announce a time," said the spokesperson, Hamid Kifaieh.

The announcement came after a weekend of talks between Shiite political leaders and the Muslim religion's main cleric over concerns that the basic law agreed a week ago could give the Kurdish community an unfair advantage.

The leaders are now expected to sign the basic law, a ceremony already pushed back twice, without any changes being made to the text. – Sapa-AFP.
