The University of Limpopo must come clean about why it awarded millions of
rands in tenders to members of Friends of the Youth League who are close to
the expelled ANCYL leader Julius Malema.
The university confirmed that in July last year, it awarded a R27.8 million
tender for the conversion of a gymnasium into a laboratory to Collins Foromo
who was once a driver of the expelled African National Congress Youth League
president Julius Malema.
IFP Youth Brigade National Chairperson, Mr Mkhuleko Hlengwa said, "The
University of Limpopo must fully disclose the tender process it followed and
the criteria it used in awarding these tenders."
"How is it possible that institute of Higher learning can be involved in
such corrupt nepotistic practices? The most embarrassing thing is that even
the Vice-Chancellor for Limpopo University, Nehemiah Mokgalong is also
allegedly involved in this issue.
"We call on the investigators to conclude this matter thoroughly and
speedily as this kind of rot must not be allowed to fester in our institutes
of Higher Education. Our Universities must not become pawns in the political
arena, serving the self interest of a few and in the process, sacrificing
their political stance for exchange for partisanship," said Hlengwa.
