As countries throughout the world celebrate World Teachers' Day today, the
IFP supports this year's international theme, "Take a Stand for Teachers".

IFP Youth Brigade National Chairperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa MP, has said, "This
is not just a day to show our appreciation for teachers, but an opportunity
to commit to supporting teachers as they perform their valuable role in
shaping our future citizens. We thank our teachers for the work that they do
under very trying circumstances. We know that teaching is not an easy
profession."

The IFP is cognisant of the role and importance of teachers in our society.
Without diligent teachers, our nation would fail to prosper. Yet South
Africa's teachers face many challenges, such as the recent Limpopo textbook
saga, and many schools are under-resourced.

Hlengwa said, "As a nation we should really show appreciation to those
teachers who are doing so much with so little, to ensure that our children
are educated."

The IFP would like to wish all teachers a happy World Teachers' Day.
Although this day falls during school holidays, we hope that both learners
and parents, and our nation as a whole, will find ways to express support
for our teachers. Together, let us Take a Stand for Teachers.
