The IFP has called on the management of the SAPS to get its house in order
after the entire top structure of the SAPS was chased away from a
Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Police yesterday.
"It is clear that the management at the helm of the SAPS is totally inept.
Their failure to adequately prepare themselves to appear in front of
Parliament and their inability to answer questions put to them is a
disgrace. This incident raises serious questions about SAPS' work ethic
which in turn does not inspire much confidence in their crime fighting
abilities," said Velaphi Ndlovu MP, the IFP's spokesperson on Police.
Ndlovu added that the SAPS had not only wasted the time of Members of
Parliament but that they had wasted taxpayers' money as well.
"The managers in question earn fat salaries, they fly down from Pretoria to
stay a night in a fancy hotel at the expense of the taxpayer, and then they
still have the audacity to come to Parliament completely unprepared, just to
waste our time. I agree with the sentiments of the Portfolio Committee that
if this situation repeats itself again, heads must roll. The mismanagement
and incompetence that have become entrenched in the SAPS must stop here,"
added Ndlovu.
