The IFP has called for a thorough investigation into the police officers who
were directly responsible of accomplice to a prison truck explosion in which
three people died and 15 were injured in Johannesburg in October this year.
IFP Spokesperson on police, Mr Velaphi Ndlovu said: "This investigation must
be completed accurately and thoroughly, the guilty police officers must be
identified, arrested and the law must be allowed to take its course. The
investigation must be as quick as possible so that the people who are
related to those who have died in this incident can have closure.
Compensation should be awarded to the families of the deceased prisoners by
the Department's of Correctional Services and Police".
Ndlovu added that, "It is the duty of the Department's of Correctional
Services and Police to ensure the safety of awaiting-trial prisoners from
the cells to the courts and from the courts back to the holding cells".
"Criminality within these Departments must be stamped out. It's time for the
respective Ministers to clean out this criminal rot from within their
departmental ranks", said Ndlovu.
