The large number of reported crimes in the Cape Flats and Khayelitsha in the
Western Cape requires more attention from the Minister of Police.
IFP Spokesperson on Police, Mr Velaphi Ndlovu said "High incidents of crime
in these areas raise concerns as to whether the Minister of Police is
turning a blind eye instead of dealing with this problem. Not a day goes by
without , numerous house breaking's or someone being stabbed to death"
"The Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa must send more police officers into
these areas. The residents have now lost all faith in the police and there
seems to be no solution in sight. How many people must be killed before the
Minister realizes that there is a serious problem here?
Ndlovu added that "People living in these areas are afraid of being attacked
by these criminals. Parents are afraid that children will be robbed if they
send them to the local shops, you cannot answer your cellphone for fear of
it being stolen from you whilst you are talking on it"
The IFP calls on the Minister of Police to send greater police contingents
into these areas. Local residents must work closely with Community Policing
Forums to report criminals to the police. In addition , the IFP calls for
the provision of whistles for the residents to use so that they can inform
others if there is a crime taking place.
