The IFP has called for a new turn-around strategy from the Department of
Corrections Services, as this Department has once again received a qualified
audit report from the Auditor General.
IFP Spokesperson on Correctional Services, Mr Velaphi Ndlovu said "The
Department of Correctional Services has repeatedly had qualified audit
reports, despite having the budget for filling the vacant posts with
qualified people."
Ndlovu further stated that "It appears that the Department of Correctional
Services is failing its core-function of using the budget that is allocated
to it correctly and appointing competent staff."
"Two years ago the Commissioner said he was taking the qualification of the
AG seriously , yet posts are still vacant, targets still not achieved and
effective financial controls not yet put in place. Why has the Department
failed to act against irregular expenditure, irregular contracts awarded to
employees and all the other problems identified by the AG over the years?"
asked Ndlovu.
Mr Velaphi Ndlovu calls to the Minister of Correctional Services and the
Commissioner to ensure that they bring answers and solutions when they
appear before the Portfolio Committee.
