The IFP has called on its members to review their membership of the
trade-union Cosatu, following pronouncements by the union that it will be
supporting the ANC in the upcoming Local Government Elections.
"We are extremely disappointed that Cosatu - who has been so vehemently
outspoken against the ANC's policies, programmes, public representatives and
perceived involvement with corruption - will still be backing the ruling
party in the upcoming elections," said Velaphi Ndlovu MP, the IFP's Deputy
National Chairperson today.
Speaking about Cosatu's statement Ndlovu said: "Clearly Cosatu's leadership
is confused. We therefore call on our supporters not to become pawns in this
political game between Cosatu and the ANC, but to end their membership with
Cosatu forthwith. The IFP is the only party that can look after the welfare
of our members," concluded Ndlovu.
