The IFP is shocked to learn that former acting National Commissioner,
Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, earns R1.2 million per year for
sitting and doing absolutely nothing at police headquarters.

"This is an outrage! How can taxpayers' money be wasted like this? The
National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega and the Minister of Police Nathi
Mtethwa must account for why Lt.-Gen Mkhwanazi has not been assigned work to
do in another portfolio, whilst he draws upon a SAPS salary," said Velaphi
Ndlovu, IFP spokesperson on Police in Parliament.

"This is not the first time something like this has happened in the police
services. Former Gauteng provincial head of crime intelligence, Joey Mabasa,
remained in his post, with nothing to do for over a year whilst being
remunerated. If these types of situations are not addressed, wasteful
expenditure and poor service delivery will always plague the police
services," said Ndlovu.

The IFP calls for urgent intervention in this matter as there is no
justifiable reason to pay Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi a full
salary for a non-existent post.
