The IFP has slated the police ministry over their tardiness in dealing with
the DNA BILL for over four years. This is not acceptable.
" The IFP calls on Parliament to look at the negative impact this is has
in fighting crime in this country. Parliament's Police Portfolio Committee
must act swiftly and deal with this issue " said Mr Velaphi Ndlovu , IFP
Spokesperson for Police in Parliament.
Ndlovu further added that " Parliament must disclose the reasons why it is
taking so long to approve this Bill, which can be used as a vital tool in
fighting crime." said Ndlovu.
The IFP wants to pass the message on to the government that if they are
serious about fighting crime, the most effective tools must be approved
without a further delay.
" This Bill will do a great job in dealing with crime issues, speeding up
investigations, especially identifying repeat offenders and can be used as
a criminal intelligence tool. The IFP is horrified that the Department of
Police have still not finalized the second draft of this Bill" concluded
Ndlovu.
