The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has welcomed the departure of some of its
former members, saying that their exit would be no loss to the Party.
"We welcome the resignations of Ms Thembi Nzuza, Mr Vincent Mngwengwe, Mr
Vela Gumede, Mr Gladwin Ndlela and Ms Mary Bawden who have, according to
media reports, opted to sell their loyalty to the ANC," said Albert Mncwango
MP, the IFP's National Organiser.
Speaking about the defections Mncwango said: "These were individuals who,
due to the fact that they could not secure the positions they had hoped for,
became bitter and dejected. Their loyalty has always been for sale and they
have found buyers in the ANC. It is clear that for the right money, position
and status they were willing to join any Party," said Albert Mncwango MP.
Mncwango said however, that the IFP felt disappointed by Nzuza's decision:
"Nzuza has been struggling with serious personal problems and as a Party, we
have offered her our full understanding, co-operation and support. Yet this
is the way she repays us? It really speaks volumes about her character."
Mncwango said that today's defections are another clear indication that the
newly formed NFP will not succeed. Said Mncwango: "While these defections
are no loss to us, it is certainly another blow for the NFP. So far,
kaMagwaza-Msibi has only been able to attract failed councillors and failed
Mayors. However, we have no doubt that soon they will all be reunited again.
Once kaMagwaza-Msibi's ANC-sponsored project fails, she will follow suit."
