The IFP has welcomed the ruling in former police chief Jackie Selebi's
appeal against his corruption conviction, and 15-year jail sentence.
"At long last we have closed this shameful chapter in our history which has
severely dented the image of the SAPS and the integrity and credibility of
South Africa as a whole," said Mr Velaphi Ndlovu MP, the IFP 's spokesperson
on police.
Ndlovu said that today's ruling sends out a clear message that there are
severe consequences for corrupt individuals, even when they are powerful and
politically connected.
"Today's ruling confirms that our justice system works. It sends out a
message to our society that even those who are close to political power will
be prosecuted if found to be corrupt. This is an important signal to send
out if we want to successfully deal with corruption in our country. The IFP
also applauds the NPA on a job well done. It has reaffirmed the institution
as an organization that will prosecute without fear, favour or prejudice,"
concluded Ndlovu.
