The IFP has welcomed the latest findings made public today by the Public
Protector, as she released her final report into the improper lease
procurement of the Middestad building in Pretoria and the Transnet Building
in Durban, by the SAPS.
"The IFP wishes to extend its congratulations to the Public Protector on a
job well done, and we add our voice to Adv Mandonsela's call that urgent
action needs to be taken against Minister Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde, for
failing to co-operate with the investigation. In addition, the IFP would
like to see the immediate dismissal of National Police Commissioner General
Bheki Cele, who has been found guilty of maladministration," said Koos van
der Merwe MP, the IFP's Chief Whip.
Van der Merwe urged all parties involved in the lease deal, to act promptly
in implementing remedial measures. Said van der Merwe, "We urge the Minister
of Police to immediately institute legal action against all officials of the
SAPS who acted in contravention of the law, in respect of the procurement
processes referred to in this report. Furthermore, we urge National
Treasury, the Minister of Public Works, the Minister of Police, the Minister
of Public Service and Administration, the SAPS and the DPW to immediately
implement the corrective actions as suggested by the Public Protector."
Van der Merwe added that the IFP stands resolutely behind the Public
Protector in her quest to stop corruption and maladministration.
"Adv Madonsela has proven that she will not be intimidated. She has proven
that she will not be deterred from investigating improper and prejudicial
conduct, maladministration and abuse of power in state affairs. Ultimately,
it is brave citizens like Adv Mandonsela who will see to it that our
fledgling democracy survives. The IFP is proud of the admirable work Adv
Mandonsela is doing in the service of our nation," concluded van der Merwe.
