The IFP has called on President Jacob Zuma to tell the truth about how much
public money has been spent on the upgrade of his homestead in Nkandla.

IFP Spokesperson on Public Works, Mr Petros Sithole said, "It is shocking
and disgusting that a reported R203m of taxpayers money has been misused on
the President's private residence. There are so many people who are in
desperate need of proper housing, clean water, electricity, schools and job
opportunities, yet huge amounts of money are being spent on one programme,
which is not going to have any long-term benefit for the communities of
Nkandla" said Sithole

"This programme by the Department of Publics Works is not developing the
entire area of Nkandla, but only the presidential residence. The
President himself must now disclose how much is being invested into this
project by government departments, and pay back the millions wasted in
unnecessary expenditure by the Department of Public Works" said Sithole

Sithole stated that,"There are many areas in Nkandla under traditional
leaders which are under-developed, but every time the KwaNxamalala Area
receives preference from government because this is where the president's
home is."

Why is the KwaNxamalala area receiving preference over other areas in
KwaZulu Natal which are underdeveloped? Why is the President using tax
payers money to revamp his homestead? In addition, the Department of
Publics Works is dysfunctional, and has received disclaimers from the
Auditor General, yet it is spending millions on the President's homestead?"
asked Sithole

The IFP insists that leaders who breach the Executive Members Ethics Act are
held accountable. This Act prohibits the President from using his position
to enrich himself or from allowing anything that will compromise the
credibility of his office or government departments. The President needs to
be honest about his Nkandla upgrade.
