The IFP has called for an urgent investigation into the alleged corrupt
activities of the Councillor of Ward 81, Tsakane in the Ekurhuleni
Metropolitan Municipality where it has been reported that people are paying
up to R3000 for preferential allocation of land for the purposes of erecting
informal housing units.
IFP Spokesperson on Human Settlement, Mr. Petros Sithole, said, "I visited
this area recently and found that people are paying R3000 for allocations of
land without any receipts being issued. In addition, the people paying
these monies are from other extensions, for example, Extension 9 which does
not form part of this area. People are also being asked to present ANC
membership cards before they get their housing allocations."
"I subsequently accompanied these people to open cases at the Tsakane
Police Station because we believe that these transactions are fraudulent.
There is no service delivery in this area. IFP councillors will meet the
ward councillor and Gauteng Provincial leadership next week on the 14th, to
investigate this matter further, " said Sithole.
Sithole further advised that there were no proper sanitation or sewage
systems in the area. "People are provided with a basic structure of sides
and a roof , but no toilet, water or sewage facilities".
The IFP calls on the MEC for Local Government and Human Settlement in
Gauteng, Ntombi Mekgwe and the Mayor of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan
Municipality, Mondli Gungubele to urgently intervene in resolving this
issue.
The IFP will not tolerate communities being conned by those people who are
supposed to be acting on their behalf.
