The IFP supports all efforts in the North West to fight what is endemic
corruption throughout the local government system, including calls by SAMWU
to root out corruption in the Matlosana local Municipality.

IFP Spokesperson on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Peter
Smith said "Corruption must be rooted out of the North West and those found
to be involved in any illegal activities must be charged and arrested. The
MEC for Local government and Traditional Affairs China Dodovu must intervene
in the Matlosana municipality where the situation is out of hand."

Smith added that the reported appointment of a relative of the mayor as CFO
at an inflated salary, the payment of monies to service providers which fail
to deliver as required, and the appointment of unqualified and inexperienced
senior staff in the municipality cannot be allowed to go unchallenged.

"The IFP fully supports the call to fight corruption, nepotism and
maladministration in the North West, and we call on the MEC for Cooperative
Governance and Traditional Affairs to urgently investigate wrongdoings in
all municipalities in the province. Stamping out corruption should be a high
priority in the department, especially in places that public officials tend
to see themselves above the law."
