The IFP has called for an urgent investigation after this week's
Sunday Times report claim that newly appointed SABC CEO, Solly
Mokgoetle, a former operations officer of the SABC, had left the
broadcaster in 2005 after being implicated in a damning report
compiled by the Gobodo Forensic and Investigative Accounting.
The Gobodo report revealed that the SABC commissioning department -
which reported direct to Mokgoetle - had paid about R56-million to
companies involved in "collusive tendering". The outgoing interim
board of the SABC had appointed Mokgoetle.
Expressing shock at these allegations, IFP Communications Spokesperson
Reverend Musa Zondi, said the Sunday Times claims were disturbing and
clouded the hopes that SABC had put its woes and the controversies of
recent years behind it. Zondi said that it was vital that there was
"not even a whiff of scandal surrounding the new CEO because public
patience was running thin and confidence must be restored in the
public service forthwith".
