The IFP would like to commend the Department of Sports and Recreation for
increasing the monetary incentive of Paralympics winners to be the same
amount as that of their Olympics counterparts.
"It was only fair for the Department to take this decision to give the
Paralympics winners the same monetary amount as that of the Olympics winners
as they are all equal in representing our country in these Games," said IFP
Spokesperson on Sport and Recreation, Hon. Mkhuleko Hlengwa MP.
"There was no real reason from the beginning to reward the Paralympics
lesser than their follow athletes who compete in the Olympics".
"The Paralympians are always the ones who bring the country more medals from
these Games. Therefore, they deserve to be treated fairly. We are happy with
the Department's decision to reward the Paralympians with the amount of cash
they deserve," said Hlengwa.
"These winners deserve all the reward they got as they made our country
proud. We hope they will use the money to improve their skills in their
fields of sports and improve their lives," concluded Hlengwa.
The IFP congratulates the Paralympics Team South Africa once again for
bringing a total of 29 medals home.
