IFP eThekwini Caucus Chairperson, Mr Mdu Nkosi, today called for government
intervention in the continued failure of the eThekwini Municipality to
release and discuss the full Manase Report into municipal mismanagement.

Mr Nkosi said, "The failure of Mayor Nxumalo to release the full Manase
Report to the Council meeting this last Monday (30 July 2012) is a clear
indication that the Mayor and his Executive are trying by all means to delay
and divert attention from the allegations of municipal mismanagement in the
Manase Report. These delay tactics are leaving the daily functioning of the
municipality in limbo. To ensure a clear way forward and to root out
corruption and mismanagement we call on Premier Zweli Mkhize and the MEC for
Local Government, Ms Nomsa Dube, to dissolve the municipality in terms of
Section 139 of the Constitution and to appoint an administrator to manage
the daily operations of the Municipality."

"By allowing the Municipality to continue hiding mismanagement and financial
misappropriation, the Provincial Government is implicating itself in a cover
up which to date has cost ratepayers millions. Money which could have been
spent on essential services instead of lining the pockets of the privileged
few", Mr Nkosi continued.

"The time has come to clean up our house and it is evident that the Mayor
and his Executive do not have the will or capacity to do so, therefore it is
now the time for the Provincial Government to step in and ensure that our
municipality is not bled dry and that there are still services available",
Mr Nkosi concluded.
