Today the South African Government is implementing one more stage of
its relentless war on the working class. Electricity will increase by
25.1% and the fuel price will be increased because of the petrol levy.
The IFP has objected to all these forms of indirect taxation. The
build programme of Eskom should have been done through the national
budget and the fuel levy must be abolished. In this manner the burden
of building infrastructure and running government will be distributed
equitably between the rich and the poor.
Instead, the South African Government continues to steal from the
working class to feed the rich, the corrupt and the opulent. It is
time for people to wake up to the fact that a welfare state does not
help the working class. It is a mere façade to hide the transfer of
money from the working class to the highest echelons of economic
society.
The South African Government must begin operating within its budget
approved by Parliament and financed through progressive rather than
regressive taxes. It must stop pushing items outside of the budget to
be financed directly by the working class through regressive taxes.
