On the occasion of the 93rd birthday of Mr Nelson Mandela, I would like to
add my and my Party's voices to the millions who are paying tribute to one
of the icons of our democracy today.
Mr Mandela is no longer merely a man, but a symbol. He represents the
achievement of the seemingly impossible; he represents hope. In the midst of
all we face as a nation, on international Nelson Mandela Day we celebrate
hope, which has become both rare and indispensible. We cannot afford not to
celebrate Nelson Mandela Day.
Let us therefore honour Madiba today by giving the gift of time - 67 minutes
- to those South Africans less fortune than us, so that we can improve
someone else's life, and indeed the future our entire nation.
The IFP wishes Mr Mandela a very Happy Birthday! May God bless him with
strength, health and many more joyous birthdays.
