The IFP has welcomed the announcement that seven new Ministers and
fourteen new Deputy Ministers will be sworn into President Jacob
Zuma's cabinet today.
Speaking about the major cabinet reshuffle that was announced
yesterday, IFP President Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi MP said, "The IFP
welcomes President Zuma's frank admission that his cabinet was not
functioning optimally with the announcement of significant changes to
his Executive. We are hopeful that this Cabinet reshuffle will
strengthen some of the non-performing Departments and we are
optimistic that it will go a long way in improving Government's dismal
service delivery record."
Talking about Cabinet's failure to be held accountable, Buthelezi
said, "We have seen a number of Ministers defying Parliament by not
attending portfolio committee meetings when asked to account to them.
We hope that this Cabinet reshuffle will usher in a new area of
responsible Ministers, and that there will be a renewed focus on
accountability and delivery. As an opposition party we will continue
to play our role in strengthening democracy by monitoring and holding
these Ministers accountable, and speaking out whenever we see them
failing in their duties."
The IFP President added that the IFP wished President Zuma's new Cabinet well.
Buthelezi said, "The IFP wishes all new Ministers and Deputy Ministers
all the best as they assume their duties today. We hope that they will
perform their tasks conscientiously, with passion and commitment to
improving the lives of ordinary South Africans."
