It is with a deep sense of loss and sadness that I have learned of the
passing of my dear friend, the late Public Service and Administration
Minister, Roy Padayachie.
Minister Padayachie was a loyal, competent and dedicated servant of
the people of South Africa. His commitment to our democracy and to
bettering the lives of ordinary South Africans, especially from our
home province of KwaZulu Natal, was well known. Mr Padayachie was not
only a great man but a hard worker. He will be sorely missed.
I was honoured to know Minister Padayachie well. It was always a
pleasure working with him, for he treated other political
organisations with the utmost of respect. He worked and related very
well to me and even during his time as the Minister of Communications
he ensured that he invited me to all his functions. His work served
reconciliation.
On behalf of the Party I lead, the Inkatha Freedom Party, and my
family, I wish to extend my sincerest and deepest condolences to Mrs
Padayachie, their family and the African National Congress. May the
Lord comfort you; you are in our thoughts and prayers. May our nation
rise in a unified message of thanks for the life of one of our
country's most dedicated servants.
