The IFP's Spokesperson on Public Works, Mr KP Sithole MP, slammed the
Department of Public Works on Friday for its total lack of urgency in paying
outstanding accounts for departmental contractors.

"This is nothing short of criminal!" said Sithole. "Some contractors have
been waiting for more than three years to be paid by the Department for
services rendered. These are small and medium enterprises which cannot carry
this kind of capital outlay indefinitely. In many instances, they are now on
the verge of bankruptcy."

"Where is the President's 'Operation Reapatala'? More empty promises, more
rhetoric, zero action," said Sithole. "We are currently in a severe economic
downturn and would expect Government to do everything in its power to
alleviate this burden. This is just another aspect in which Government is
failing the people of this country."

Sithole concluded by re-stating his call for the disbandment of the
Department of Public Works.
