Following the ICC Championship Trophy tournament, which was broadcast with only English commentary on SABC on Sunday evening, the IFP Chief Whip, Koos van der Merwe, has laid an urgent complaint with the SABC.

The SABC said that they have taken note of the complaint and will give it the urgent attention it deserves.

Van der Merwe said that the IFP believes that the SABC owes the public an explanation. "We need answers as to why Sunday's cricket game between South Africa and England was only available to viewers in English when the SABC's language policy states that it strives to broadcast events of national importance in more than one language," said van der Merwe.

Van der Merwe added that events of national importance should be accessible to a wide range of South African communities. "It is important that we demand from our public broadcaster, the SABC, that they embrace their constitutional duty to treat all the official languages equitably, and with equal respect," concluded van der Merwe
