The IFP has expressed shock at what it called the slaughtering of people at
Lonmin Marikana Platinum Mine in the North West. Reacting to reports that
the police shot and killed about 30 protestors yesterday afternoon, Joshua
Mazibuko IFP Deputy National Spokesperson referred to yesterday's episode as
shameful and called for sanity to prevail in order to prevent any further
loss of lives.
"The IFP was deeply shocked by the news of the slaughter of so many people
at the Marikana Platinum Mine where about 30 people were murdered. The
slaughter of so many people is a shame on the whole nation. The IFP abhors
violence regardless of who or what the cause thereof is.
"We do not have all the facts to determine who was on the wrong. Therefore
we call for sanity to prevail among all involved as the country cannot
afford such acts of barbarism. We also call o the government to urgently
institute an inquiry into this tragedy so that those responsible are brought
to book," said Mazibuko.
