The Inkatha Freedom Party welcomes the recent ruling by the Supreme Court of
Appeal in the Sheryl Cwele 'drug dealing' matter, which saw a reversal of
fortune when Cwele's appeal effectively translated into 8 years more jail
time for her.
The IFPs JH van der Merwe, MP, spokesperson on Judicial Affairs said, " We
are extremely pleased to see that our courts are starting to take the issue
of 'drug dealing' seriously and applying the law, in a manner in which
indicates the severity of this widespread social-ill".
He further added that," This sends a clear message to all politically
connected criminals in this country that if you break the law, irrespective
of your political connections, you will be brought to justice. You will do
hard time!"
"The people and the courts of South Africa will no longer tolerate the
thuggery and organized criminal activities of our leaders, their family
members or cronies".
