The IFP today offered condolences to the family, friends and relatives of
those killed in the Rovos Rail train accident near Pretoria yesterday.
"The IFP wishes to convey its deepest sympathy to those who lost family and
friends in this disaster and we wish a full and speedy recovery to all those
who were injured," said Eric Lucas MP, the IFP's spokesperson on transport
today.
Lucas called on the Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele and the Rail Safety
Regulator to make a detailed report into the incident available to the
public at a matter of urgency.
"We are aware that a full investigation into the circumstances which led to
this tragic accident is underway, and we call on the Minister to ensure that
this process is completed expeditiously. With only 49 days to go to the FIFA
World Cup, we must be able to assure South Africans and international
visitors alike, that our rail system is indeed a safe means of transport,"
concluded Lucas.
