The IFP urges the Department of Water and Environmental Affairs to intervene
and solve water problems in Mpumalanga. The Department should make
arrangements for people in Mpumalalnga to get clean water and also hold
investigations in the Mpumalanga Municipality to hold accountable those who
are not doing their job to deliver clean water to residents in
Bushbuckridge.
"The water problems in Mpumalanga are shocking. It is worrying to know that
some citizens in our country are still leaving without clean water," said
IFP Spokesperson on Water and Environmental Affairs, Hon. Constance Zikalala
MP.
"Residents of Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga are putting their lives at risk by
drawing water in dirty dams. This puts them and their children at risk of
getting diseases. This should not be happening! Everyone in this country has
a right to clean water and Government should see to it that this right is
granted to the people," said Zikalala.
"The Municipality of Mpumalanga should be ashamed of itself. What have they
done with the R260 million that they owe the Water Board if residents are
still going without clean water? This Municipality should be investigated.
Clearly there is some mismanagement of funds happening there which results
in poor service delivery to the people of Mpumalanga," said Zikalala.
