The Provincial Council of the Inkatha Freedom Party in Gauteng met
yesterday and declared themselves united in support of the current IFP
leadership and its President, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
"We have resolved that we will not support any deliberate campaign to
unseat the IFP's democratically-elected leadership and we want to
reiterate that the IFP in Gauteng stands behind our president, Prince
Mangosuthu Buthelezi and our party leaders as resolutely as ever,"
said Bonginkosi Dhlamini, the IFP Gauteng spokesperson.
Dhlamini has appealed to members of the party to desist from taking
part in illegal demonstrations.
"We will soon announce a disciplinary committee that will deal with
members who are involved in illegal activities, so we urge members not
to engage in any unlawful actions," said Dhlamini.
Dhlamini added that the IFP in Gauteng is now focussing all its
efforts on gearing-up for the IFP's 2009 annual general conference.
"Our main priority now is to prepare our structures in Johannesburg,
Pretoria, Ekurhuleni and the West Rand for conference and we hope to
have all our branches renewed and ready by November. The IFP Gauteng
is looking forward to the opportunity to do a proper introspection
into our poor showing in the 2009 elections and to put into action a
strategy for a robust, energetic and stronger IFP Gauteng in the
lead-up to the 2011 elections," said Dhlamini.
