Inkatha Freedom Party has labeled Advocate Menzi Simelane as a pathetic
appointment who will never have the guts to prosecute ANC leaders. The
IFP said this in today's Community Safety debate at the KwaZulu-Natal
Legislature in Pietermaritzburg. Speaking during the debate IFP MPL Mr.
Blessed Gwala said:
"While I don't want to taint this debate by including the recent
appointment of the NPA boss, Advocate Menzi Simelane, I cannot avoid
stating that he is a pathetic appointment. No ANC leader will ever be
prosecuted after the appointment of Mr. Simelane."
Gwala went on to commend the government for recent appointment of
KwaZulu-Natal Commissioner, Mmamonye Ngobeni who, he said, is a
refreshing departure from ANC policy of political appointments:
"This time the ANC government has appointed a police officer,
Commssioner Mamoonye Ngobeni, who we hope will be impartial in dealing
with criminal cases; unlike Mr. Cele who is a loyal and dedicated cadre
of the ANC.

"What heartens us about the appointment of Commissioner Ngobeni is that
she is a professional police officer who has risen through the ranks.
This is a refreshing departure by the ruling ANC from what they did when
they appointed the then MEC for Community Safety, Mr. Bheki Cele as
National Commissioner of Police," said Gwala.

He continued to say that while the IFP is determined to offer the new
appointee their full support, they are equally determined to measure her
performance against her ambitious pledge to finally make a drastic dent
on the intolerable levels of crime in our province.
