KwaZulu Natal will, on the 1st August 2012, go to polls for
by-elections in four of the Province's most contested Wards. There
will be a by-election in Ward 5, uMtshezi Municipality, Ward 9 in
Abaqulusi Municipality, Ward 8 in Phongolo and Ward 2 in
NtambananaMunicipality.
"I have submitted questions to the KwaZulu Natal Premier, Dr Zweli
Mkhize to clarify, the periodic service delivery to the wards that
will soon have by-elections," said Mr Blessed Gwala, Leader of the
Official Opposition in the KZN Legislature.
The IFP is challenging the Premier to disclose which departments have
been assigned to campaign in these four Wards. The IFP's question
derives from the Party's concern that the ANC usually uses taxpayers'
money to campaign for elections in a form of assigning Provincial
departments to visit these wards, hoping that the communities could be
fooled into voting for the ruling party.
"These communities struggle because of poor service delivery but now,
just because it's closer to the by-elections, the Premier and his
cabinet are pretending to care for them. These communities hardly get
any attention from the Provincial government when there are no
by-elections on the cards, however, whenever its close to voting times
they are lured into believing that they are a priority to the ruling
party when in actual fact they are not," said Gwala.
The IFP is warning the ANC on using people for their votes. The IFP is
also calling on the ruling party to stop using taxpayers' money when
campaigning.
"The ANC must remember that people will not be naïve for ever and
they will soon see right through their fake concern for them,"
concluded Gwala.
