The IFP is delighted that the Department of Basic Education will be opening
two new schools in the Eastern Cape. "This is a good start by the Department
in improving the state of education for children in the Eastern Cape as it
is one of the provinces with exceptionally poor education standards and
service delivery," said IFP Spokesperson on Basic Education, Hon Alfred
Mpontshane MP.
"Building proper schools for our children should be one of government's
highest priorities especially in rural arrears like Libode District where
the state of education has not improved. Children should not be learning in
mud schools in this day and age. Poor learning environments negatively
affect pupils which in turn leads to poor results," said Mpontshane.
The IFP is happy that the learning conditions of some children in the
Eastern Cape will be much better than what they were in the past especially
after a long delay in implementing the Accelerated Schools Infrastructure
Development Initiative (Asidi) in the Eastern Cape. The Department of Basic
Education should work tirelessly in eradicating mud schools and
inappropriate infrastructure.
The IFP urges greater development of proper schooling facilities,
particularly in our rural arrears.
