The IFP today expressed its shock following the news that Ntombizonke Cele,
the Deputy Director of Development at the KwaZulu Natal Department of
Education, was robbed and strangled to death at the weekend.
"The IFP sends their deepest condolences to the Cele family. We trust that
the police will apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime without
delay. These callous criminals must face the full brunt of the law," said
Alfred Mpontshane, the IFP's Education spokesperson today.
Mpontshane decried the lawlessness that has come to characterise KZN and
South Africa as a whole.
"Despite government's insistence that crime is on the decrease, the reality
on the ground paints a very different picture - every day we read stories of
ordinary South Africans dying the most horrible, brutal deaths at the hands
of ruthless criminals," said Mpontshane.
He added: "The death of one of KZN's top education officials is a great loss
to the profession, which already has a critical shortage of dedicated
professionals, and a clear indication that we are losing the war against
crime."
