The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal will visit the late Senzo Meyiwa's family this
afternoon to pay its last respect to the sports hero.

"The IFP was shocked to hear of the sad passing away of Senzo Meyiwa, the
captain of both Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates, who was shot and killed
criminals in Vosloorus on Sunday. The pain is immeasurable across the
province, especially in Umlazi where Senzo spent his childhood," said IFP
National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala.

"He had the strength, stamina and high levels of commitment. He was a quick
thinker and a strategist who had the ability to turn the soccer game around
with the sheer flick of his hands. He was highly driven and made a profound
impact on and off the field. His influence will remain with us for a very
long time to come," continued Mr Gwala.

"One wonders whether the rampant crime wave in South Africa means that is
the Nation losing the fight against crime. Our beautiful country seems to
have become dangerously negative and has gained a growing reputation as a
crime-ridden destination and this is certainly not helping our democracy. We
always live in fear of being mugged, robbed, raped and killed or losing our
properties," conclued Mr Gwala.

The IFP calls on the police to urgently speed up the process of arresting
the culprits in order for them to face the full might of the law.
