ID Western Cape Provincial Secretary, Rodney Lentit has scored Premier Helen Zille's cabinet, a positive 7/10 for her efforts during the first 100 days in office.
" What really stands out for us as the Independent Democrats, is Premier Zille's attempts to "walk the talk". Her strict application of cost-cutting measures has resulted in approx R430m of luxuries being trimmed in favour of more urgent service delivery priorities." says Lentit.
This includes the bold step on restricting Minister's and MP's air travel to economy class, reduction on the cost of Ministers vehicles and the significant decline in unnecessary "talk-shop" conferences. This type of leadership is certainly a step in the right direction.
Now that Premier Zille has found the right ingredients for success, we hope that her recipe will be just as good and call on the Premier to ensure that the scourge of unemployment, poverty and substance abuse in the Western Cape will be addressed as a matter of urgency during her term in office.
