Honourable Speaker

Initiatives such as the R9-billion Job Fund that was launched by the National Treasury last year is crucial for the survival and restoration of the job market in the Western Cape.

It is therefore critical that our government keeps tabs on the developments of these trusts and create awareness for aspiring entrepreneurs, which would ultimately lead to the creation of jobs in the province.

Speaker, government and the corporate sector need to work together and be committed to create real change.

The Jobs Fund considers proposals that perform competitively within the following four funding windows:
Enterprise Development
Infrastructure
Support for work seekers
Institutional Capacity Building

Speaker, applications for this, the second year of service from this R9-billion trust has closed. There is one year remaining for this initiative.

I therefore appeal to Minister Winde, and all key role players in the provincial administration and executive to keep tabs on the date for new intakes, so that our people in the Western Cape can tap into this fund, and better the chances of fellow residents….. to secure jobs and expand the private sector.

The lack of communication on this topic may have excluded potential Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) in the Western Cape.

This is something we have to prevent in future.

In the end, our goal should ultimately translate beyond unskilled labour to recruiting skilled labour too.

This way, it may strengthen our economy by generating successful entrepreneurs.

I Thank You!
