The Independent Democrats (ID) Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, Mr Rodney Lentit says PHASE 2 of learner registration is currently underway in the Western Cape for the 2013 school year intake.
Mr Lentit raised concerns with the department after learning that parents in his Kuils River constituency had experienced registration complications, after which he submitted an official question to the Minister of Education, Mr Donald Grant (copied one below).
‘I immediately took the matter up with the department in an attempt to avoid first-day-of-school chaos and to further avoid parents and learners from registration panic in the Wesbank area,’ says Mr Lentit.
‘The department has indicated that admission and early enrolment are very important processes as it concerns access to education, which is a priority of Action Plan 2014.
‘It further means that schools may plan class groups and teaching allocations by September/October 2012 for the new school year and avoid hurdles in commencing with contact time during the first week of school.
‘Parents who have missed out on the first phase of registration which ended on 22 June 2012 now have the opportunity to register and follow up on previous registrations by the last school week in September this year,’ Mr Lentit says.
