ID President Patricia de Lille says ‘the Independent Democrats welcomes the verdict of Judge Meyer Joffe in the South Gauteng High Court.

‘This sends out a very strong message to all the corrupt leaders in our country that no one is above the law. The courts have proven once again that where there are excesses and corruption on the part of leaders and these cases actually make it into the courts, the courts will deliver justice for the people,' Ms De Lille says.

‘It is of major concern to us that we have already spent R40m of taxpayers' money on Selebi's defence - now that he has been found guilty, the State must recover every cent of that money from him.'

The ID Leader added that the fact that ‘the Judge made it very clear that Pikoli's evidence was impeccable means that once again Vusi Pikoli has been vindicated and he has been shown to be a man of integrity.'
