ID President Patricia de Lille has welcomed Cosatu General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi's call for a lifestyle audit to be carried out on all cabinet ministers, saying ‘over time this could help us create a new breed of ministers that truly understand what it means to be servants of the people.

‘We in the Independent Democrats support this call. Of course, it remains to be seen whether some of the shiny suits in the Cabinet benches will be prepared to throw their sometimes considerable weight behind this proposal,' Ms De Lille says.

‘A lifestyle audit would also be a good way of separating truth from rumours and the ID is therefore hoping that in the coming days ministers will announce their support for this initiative.'
