ID President Patricia de Lille says ‘it is extremely likely' that ANCYL President Julius Malema, ‘contrary to what he has been saying all along is stealing from the poor, through tax evasion.'

Ms De Lille's comments come after City Press published a story titled "TAX DODGER" today, part of which read,

"A whistleblower told... [ID leader] Patricia de Lille that both Malema's personal taxes and those of businesses associated with him were under investigation. "

‘Furthermore,' says De Lille, ‘the whistleblower told me that neither Malema nor his businesses were tax compliant, which begs the question - how did SGL Engineering Projects manage to get Limpopo Government contracts worth R140 million between 2007 and 2009?

‘Although I guess that when you've got friends in the highest places in both Limpopo and the Presidency, the world is your oyster,' De Lille says.

‘If these are the kinds of leaders we are grooming for the future, leaders that have different rules for themselves than the rest of us and who claim to be pro-poor, when in fact they are ransacking the poor, then we are faced with a very bleak future.

‘These are not the ways of young lions, these are the ways of ruthless, dangerous vultures that are intent on stealing from the very young people they claim to represent,' says De Lille.

In an effort to ‘separate the truth from the lies', the ID President has now submitted two questions [below] to the ministers of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs asking them for details on the Malema companies' tax status and whether they "complied with tender requirements in regards to having a tax clearance certificate."

‘In addition, when the President answers question in Parliament on the 18th of this month I am going to ask him whether his proposed debate on morality will include the morality of government ministers and the ruling party benefiting financially from tenders,' says De Lille.

Can the Minister confirm whether 101 Junjus Trading CC, Blue Nightingale Trading 61, Ever Roaring Investment and SGL Engineering Projects have received tenders from government; if so, (a) what is the value of each of the tenders, (b) which municipalities were these tenders awarded in, (c) have the projects been completed; if so, were there any inspections or problems after completion; if not, when will they be completed, (d) did the companies meet all the requirements necessary to be awarded a tender and (e) Can you confirm that the companies have submitted tax clearance certificate's before they were granted tenders?

1)In reference to the article (‘Zuma: It's time to talk about our moral code' Wally Mbhele and Mondli Makhanya, The Times, 21st February 2010) the President has stated that the nation should engage in a debate on morality, will this debate on morality include the morality of government minister and the ruling party benefiting financially from tenders; if not, why not?
