ID President Patricia de Lille says the ID ‘welcomes' the cancelation of the multi-billion rand contract for eight Airbus A400M military freight aircraft and the fact that the R2.9 billion already paid will be refunded to the National Treasury.

The deal's price had escalated from an original R17 billion to around R40 billion.

‘This is certainly going to save the taxpayers a lot of money,' Ms De Lille says.

‘However, in future we must prevent these situations, where people think we have an open cheque book and money to waste, from happening again.

‘It seems the ANC Government has finally learnt their lesson from the Arms Deal,' says De Lille.
