Joe Mcgluwa, the ID spokesperson for sport, has slammed the South African Football Association (Safa) ‘for even considering replacing Joel Santana with his predecessor, Carlos Parreira.
‘These two gentlemen are responsible for helping Bafana Bafana go down over 20 places on the world ranking. Why on earth would Safa want to bring back the very man who recommended Santana?
‘Not only was Santana remote-controlled by Parreira, but he also had very poor communication skills. On top of that, Parreira has been sacked by the Brazilian side Fluminese for a number of consecutive poor performances,' Mr Mcgluwa says.
‘Now please will somebody at Safa tell me - is there even one good reason to bring back the very person who started this bad dream in the first place?
‘The whole of South Africa wants this bad dream to end,' Mcgluwa says.
‘And the only way it is going to end is if we harness the kind of magic that can only come from a local coach, someone who loves our country and our soccer the way we do.
‘Why is it that three experienced local coaches - Jomo Sono, Gavin Hunt and Clive Barker - are good enough to do an assessment of both Santana and the team's performances, but they are not good enough to coach Bafana?
‘The ID wants Safa to release the report by our three coaches and after that to appoint one of them as our national coach,' says Mcgluwa.
