Joe Mcgluwa, the ID's spokesperson for Sport has given the South African Broadcasting Corporation Centre in Sandton the thumbs up.

The ID Member of Parliament's comments come after he visited the Centre last night, 10 July 2010, as part of a delegation from Parliament's Sports Portfolio Committee, of which Mcgluwa is a member.

‘The move by the SABC to temporarily relocate from Auckland Park to the Convention Centre in Sandton for the period 1June 2010 to 11 July 2010 to broadcast the world's biggest sporting event, the Soccer World Cup, was a move that enabled us to efficiently broadcast the competition,' says Mr Mcgluwa.

‘The Broadcasting Centre was a hive of activities, bringing everything together, from the main set area to the technical rooms, with radio interview boots and artistic exhibitions, under one roof.

‘The effect was that we could bring broadcasting direct to the people. Various celebrities, soccer stars and officials from Fifa, whose offices are in close proximity to the Centre could literally be taken by the hand for an interview. The ID would like to congratulate the SABC on their sterling service throughout the 2010 Soccer World Cup,' says Mcgluwa.

‘We have also done well to prepare the groundwork for hosting the Olympic Games, should an analysis of the benefits provide us with such a motivation.'
