ID MP Joe McGluwa has strongly condemned the behaviour of unruly soccer fans at this weekend's World Cup soccer match between Ghana and Australia in Rustenburg, in the North West Province.

‘Australian soccer hooligans who were unhappy with the decisions of the referee began hurling plastic beer bottles, some of them full of beer, onto the field while play was on,' the ID Spokesperson for Sport says.

‘We cannot condone the behaviour of some soccer hooligans that are trying to tarnish our excellent efforts to host the biggest sporting event on earth.'

Thus far Mcgluwa has attended the Bafana versus Mexico and Uruguay matches, as well as Nigeria versus Greece in Bloemfontein, and Ghana against Australia in Rustenburg on Saturday.

‘Sitting in the crowd in the normal category areas at some of the matches, I was pleasantly surprised by the behaviour of African supporters, whose patriotism was expressed in a welcoming and friendly fashion, an example that some of the Australian supporters would do well to learn from,' Mr Mcgluwa says.

‘What I found really unacceptable was that even though some Ghanaian players were obviously unnerved and distracted by this aggressive behaviour during this crucial period of the game, the security personnel, many of whom were watching these hooligans at work, never even went up there to warn them.

‘We hope that video footage will expose these hooligans and that they will be put on the next plane back to Australia,' says Mcgluwa.

The ID MP will be attending Bafana Bafana's game against France in Bloemfontein tomorrow.

‘It is our hope that the starting line-up for tomorrow's game will include some of our best players, who for some strange reason have spent the last two games sitting on the bench. MacBeth Sibaya, Mathew Booth and Bernard Parker all have the potential to open up the game,' Mcgluwa says.

‘I cannot think of one good reason why these three brilliant players have up until now not even touched Jabulani.'
