Harold Mcgluwa, the ID Spokesperson in the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature, says an analysis of the results of yesterday's by-election in Phokwane (Ward 5) in Hartswater shows that ‘we have given Cope a run for their money,' in spite of the DA, which did not field a candidate, supporting Cope.

The ID, with 591 votes, scored over four times more votes than Cope, which received 139. The ANC won the by-election with 1004 votes.

‘This result, which the ID was confident we would receive, paves the way for our battle against the ANC in municipalities across the Northern Cape in the next Municipal Elections,' Mr Mcgluwa says.

‘It also proves that the Independent Democrats is a force to be reckoned with.'
