Haniff Hoosen, the ID spokesperson for Health and Education has accused the ANC Government and Cosatu of ‘putting the selfish goals of their own unholy alliance before the needs of patients and students.
‘Every year we witness the same dance routine by the ruling ANC and its alliance partner Cosatu, where their leaders deliver good-natured public attacks on each other and yet a few months before an election, the very same ‘voice of the worker' transforms itself into the ‘voice of the ANC',' Mr Hoosen says.
‘[Whilst we sympathize with workers and continue to support their efforts of pursuing better salaries and working conditions, the time has come for workers to question Cosatu's unholy alliance with the ANC.
‘Regardless of any dispute around working conditions and minimum salary demands, there can be no justification for the loss of life and we call on these ‘voices of the ANC' to become moral voices of reason and to encourage essential service workers to place the lives of innocent patients before their own interests,' says Hoosen.
