The question of safety at our health care facilities is one that needs continuous assessment.
Security measures needs to be beefed up in our public health care facilities, especially at night when patients, staff and medical students are most vulnerable.

We encourage the restoration of the medical science fraternity and make bursaries and benefits attractive for aspiring nursing and other medical students.
But, we need to create and improve the security of our facilities to provide safe training grounds for these students.
An incident earlier this month at the Tygerberg Hospital left many nursing students reeling after an attack on a fellow student.

I appeal to the ministers of Health and Community Safety to join forces and produce the best security measures that can immediately be enforced at our public health care facilities on a 24-hour bases.
This will bring peace of mind to all users and providers of our quality health care service in the Western Cape.
